In general, there are three types of glass tube cutters as follows:
- Diamond cutter (Pen-shaped cutter)
- Diamond wheel cutter for wet processing (Rotary blade cutter)
- Rigid wheel Cutter (Roller cutter)
Our “Glass Tube Cutter” is categorized as a “Rigid wheel Cutter”. Using our products, everyone can cut glass tubes easily, with clear cut cross-section surface, without cleaning after cutting operation.
“Diamond cutter” : A diamond tip is mounted on the nib of the cutter, which is used by pressing the nib against the glass tube to scratch it. In case of thin glass tubes, cut with force by hand, folding at the scratched line. When the glass tube is somewhat thick, it can be cut by heating it with a burner to spread the cracks. Most of the products use oil, which must be cleaned after cutting because it leaves an oily residue on the cross section. In addition, it is quite difficult to scratch the glass tube in a straight line all the way around with a diamond cutter, and a certain level of skill is required.
“Diamond wheel cutter for wet processing” : A glass tube is cut by rotating a disk with diamond or other particles at high speed and pressing the glass tube against it. It is often used to cut glass while sprinkling water on it to prevent glass particles from being released during cutting and to reduce the impact of cutting. The equipment tends to be expensive as it requires specialized machines.
“Rigid wheel Cutter” : The principle of cutting is basically the same as “Diamond cutter”. A hard wheel is pressed against the glass tube, pinching it to hold it in place, rotating the tube around once to scratch it, and then heating it with a burner to cut it. It is designed to cut a cylindrically shaped glass, so it is easy to make scratches that circle the glass tube in a straight line. Most products do not need oil, in which case no cleaning is required.
Our “Glass Tube Cutter” is equipped with scale engraving. The glass tube can be set while measuring the length, so it can be cut to exact dimensions. By using the same size multiple times, you can repeat the cutting process with the same length.
The wheels used in our “Glass Tube Cutter” are made of tungsten carbide and can cut soft glass as well as hard glass such as Pyrex, making them suitable for use in research institutions. The wheels can be easily removed and replaced with screws, and we sell replacement parts. The main body is made of stainless steel for durability, so you can use it for a long time with peace of mind.
The wheels can be used for 2 to 3 months, depending on the number of times you use them. To replace the wheel, loosen the screw at the tip, slide off the pin fixing cover, and pull out the pin inside to remove the wheel. And then, place the wheel to be replaced into the groove, insert the wheel fixing pin into the hole of the wheel, and screw the pin fixing lid into place.
